ABOUT CHERYL

Behind the Words

Cheryl J. Eschenfelder was born and raised in East Texas. She holds B.A and M.A. degrees from Sam Houston State University, where she studied creative writing with the late Dr. Paul Ruffin. She has worked as a news and features reporter, editor, designer and public relations specialist in East Texas and the Gulf Coast and has published, edited and contributed numerous news and features stories and creative writing pieces to news agencies, academic journals and radio news outlets.

She joined the SHSU Department of Mass Communication as a faculty member in 2005 and currently teaches courses in desktop publishing, news editing, and features and news reporting.
